The upcoming special session of Parliament is set to witness heated debates as the Centre pushes for a massive expansion of the Lok Sabha. The proposal includes increasing the number of seats by 50% and reserving 273 seats for women, marking one of the most ambitious political reforms in recent history.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described the move as fulfilling a long-standing commitment made by all political parties. He emphasized that implementing women’s reservation before the 2029 elections was a shared goal.
However, the Opposition, led by Sonia Gandhi, has questioned the government’s intent, arguing that combining delimitation with reservation raises serious concerns about electoral fairness and timing.
